Use of Visual Aides in the Modern Classroom Essay Visual aides have become important to the learning processes of children in all grades of school. From simple skits to enhanced computer calculations and comparisons, teachers everywhere are learning the power of having their students visualize and take part in what they are expected to learn. This process is a great departure from the classic learning model of reading along and taking notes, so it takes some teachers and faculty a while to accept and learn new styles of teaching. The three articles that I have chosen show the value of visual aides in the classroom, but also note the difficulties of changing long held educational beliefs. ââ¬Å"You Gotta Have Art! â⬠, by Roger Glass and Priscilla Nemeth, describes the impact of visual learning in classes around the United States. For example, in order to visualize ââ¬Å"natural environments found in Floridaâ⬠, students were prompted to paint a mural on a school wall showing what they had learned in their science class. The mural was a way to learn as well as a point of pride to the children who helped create it (Glass Nemeth, 2003, para. 5). Other schools use ââ¬Å"a print of the cityâ⬠to teach local history and geography, instead of simply using a plain map. The print allows children to see the buildings and sites that they discuss in class, rather than just have the areas pointed out to them on a basic city map that includes only streets and symbols (Glass Nemeth, 2003, para. 3). The results have been more than anyone could have expected. Attendance and discipline have improved in the schools that promote visuals in the classroom, and scores on standardized tests have risen dramatically (Glass and Nemeth, 2003, para. 2). It is apparent from this article that allowing children to see what is special about a subject, and also take part in projects that they can be proud of, encourages them to come to school interested and ready to learn. ââ¬Å"Talking Science, Modeling Scientistsâ⬠, by Elizabeth Edmondson, William H. Leonard, Chris Peters, and Anna O. Baldwin, describes a program in place in South Carolina schools that lets the students learn visually in class and then share the knowledge with students in other schools who are learning the same lesson. Students were taught a science unit on electric circuits by such means as ââ¬Å"lighting a bulb with a battery, bulb, and wire, constructing a flashlight using a series or parallel circuit and switch, and designing and wiring a simple cardboard houseâ⬠(Edmondson, et al. , 2006, p. 29). The learning did not stop there. Students learned to write about what they had visually learned, and then shared the information with student partners over a special system. (Edmondson, et al. , 2006, p. 30). This system allowed students from each school to post questions and answers to each other by means of a dedicated message board (Edmondson, et al, 2006, p. 30). Students were encouraged to ââ¬Å"buddy upâ⬠and work on projects together (Edmondson, et al, 2006, p. 30). Also, those having trouble learning were paired with those who had a mastery of the subject, so long distance peer tutoring occurred as well (Edmondson, et al, 2006, pg. 31). Teachers reported that this system of visual and hands on learning much improved the studentsââ¬â¢ comprehension levels and incidently improved their writing skills due to the reports that they posted (Edmondson, et al. , 2006, p. 31-32). This project not only serves as an interest to children who easily catch on to the lesson, but it also gives them a chance to help fellow students who are struggling. Achievement is possible for all with this method, and it would be especially productive if a ââ¬Å"richerâ⬠school district paired up with one that did not have the same luxuries. ââ¬Å"Meet Mr. Shannonâ⬠, by Kristin Kearns Jordan, gives a viewpoint from a school in New York that struggles to add visual learning methods to their curriculum. The person in the title, Mr. Frederick Shannon, is considered a ââ¬Å"master teacherâ⬠with his own manner of instruction called the ââ¬Å"Shannon Planâ⬠(Jordan, 2003, para. 2). He has used this method of primarily visual learning for twenty-five years, and he helps new teachers put it into place (Jordan, 2003, para. 2). For example, one teacher has picked up the habit of having a student dress as a ââ¬Å"hamburgerâ⬠to illustrate how a paragraph should be written. The ââ¬Å"bunâ⬠simulates a strong opening and closing sentence, and the ââ¬Å"meatâ⬠simulates the important information that should be given within the paragraph. She also uses ââ¬Å"hand signalsâ⬠to teach the components of a plot (Jordan, 2003, para. 4). Unfortunately, this school is plagued by regulations that cause the teachers to have to take classes on theory, which makes them not have time for special learning techniques (Jordan, 2003, para. 56). In this school, visual learning has to fall by the wayside. Considering that children now have to pass competency tests to move to the next grade, and seniors have to pass a graduation exam to receive a diploma, there is often little chance for teachers to vary from the standard program in their classes. It is little wonder that children with no chance for variation from the basic lessons tend to dislike school All three of these articles contain teachers who are ready and willing to use visual learning techniques, but some are much more lucky than others. Consider the South Carolina schools that have an expensive, state of the art visual program, and then think of the New York schools that are so bound in regulation that they can barely manage to fit a few skits in their lessons. Most schools will fall in the middle ground of using art and pictures as visual aides. In every case, though, visual elements enhanced the learning process, which should prove to even the most doubtful person that taking time for special types of learning enhances the educational experience. Notes and readings are not the only way to learn, and our nationââ¬â¢s educational system needs to bear that fact in mind if we are going to produce top caliber graduates.

Washing Machine Embedded System Analysis In this following assignment we are going to see about the Embedded system and how it is implemented in home application and there is few reference about the language used in the embedded system and there few application of the embedded system. Embedded systems are basic electronic devices used to control, monitor or assist the operation of equipment, machinery or a plant. The choice of word embedded reflects the fact that these are integral part of the system. Uses of embedded system in our real life are increasing day by day. Children need such systems to play video games and to operate chocolate vending machine; Housewives need embedded systems for microwave, TV, music system, and other system appliances. ABOUT EMBEDDED SYSTEM: An embedded device can range from a relatively simple product for ex. a toaster to complex mission critical applications such as those used in avionics. A typical embedded device will have both hardware and software components. The hardware could be micro components such as embedded microprocessor or microcontroller. Microcontroller is relatively small, has an on chip memory, an I/O controller and other supported modules to do processing and controlling tasks. The software consists of applications that perform dedicated tasks and may run on Real time operating system which will be explained later in this unit. Embedded System may be either an independent system or a part of a large system. It is specialized computer system but not a general purpose workstation like a desktop or a computer. Such kind of systems is housed on a single microprocessor board with programs which are stored in ROM (Read Only Memory). Embedded system is usually a compact, portable and mass produced electronic devices. In the early days, embedded systems were designed using microprocessors like 8085. But nowadays, we are using a wide range of processors from other manufacturers. Before we want to the basic of an embedded system, we should see a wide range of its applications. In fact, almost all modern electronic devices use some sort of embedded system technology inside them and we always come across such devices: DVD players, air conditioners, printers, attendance machines, hand phone, digital camera, ATM machines, we will see some examples of embedded system in section 1. Now it is time to give a proper definition. Definition: Embedded Systems are devices which are used to control, monitor or assist the operation of an equipment, machinery or plant. The term control defines the main function of Embedded System because their purpose is to control an aspect of a physical system such as pressure, temperature and so on. Also the term monitor defines the progress of activities. Embedded Systems are extremely common in the home, vehicle and the workplace. à · At Home: Washing Machines, dishwashers, ovens, central heating system, burglars alarms, etc. à · Motor Vehicle: Engine management, security (locking or antitheft devices), air conditioning, brakes, radio etc. à · In Industry Commerce: Machine control, factory automation, robotics, electronic commerce office equipments. IMPLEMENTATION OF EMBEDDED SYSTEM IN WASHING MACHINE: Washing machine supports three functional modes: i) Fully Automatic Mode: In fully automatic mode, once the system is started it perform independently without user interference and after the completion of work it should notify the user about the completion of work. This mode instantaneously sense cloth quality and requirement of water, water temperature, detergent, load, wash cycle time and perform operation accordingly. ii) Semi-Automatic Mode: In this semiautomatic mode in which washing conditions are predefined. Once the predefined mode is started the system perform its job and after completion it inform the user about the completion of work. iii) Manual Mode: In this mode, user has to specify which operation he wants to do and has to provide related information to the control system. For example, if user wants to wash clothes only, he has to choose wash option manually. Then the system ask the user to enter the wash time, amount of water and the load. After these data are entered, the user should start the machine. When the specified operation is completed system should inform the user. Remember that Modes should be a selectable by a keypad. A washing machine may have a System Controller (Brain of the System) which provides the power control for various monitors and pumps and even controls the display that tells us how the wash cycles are proceeding. Driving Motor Water pump System Controller Display Panel Sensor Inverter Unit The working of these components is as follows: i) Display Panel: It is a touch panel screen to control all the operations of a machine ii) Sensor: It measures the water level and appropriate amount of soap. Input devices for automatic washing machine are sensors for water flow, water level and temperature; door switch; selector knob or buttons for settings such as spin speed, temperature, load size and types of wash cycle required. iii)Water Level Sensor: It indicates beep sound when water level is low in washing tub. Door Sensor: It indicates beep sound when all clothes are washed that means now you can open the maching door and also you can move to your next phase. Next phase will be dry Phase. This phase also follows same concept for drying the clothes. iv) Driving Motor: Motor can rotate in two directions either reverse or forward. The forward direction drives the current in forward direction and motor rotates forward. The reverse direction driver does the opposite of it. A washing machine can maintain single motor in fully automatic or double motor in semi-automatic washing machine. Sequence of washing the clothes with this can be explained in few steps as follows: 1) Put on your dirty clothes on to the wash tub for washing 2) Put the detergent Soap (of your choice like Surf n Excel etc.) 3) Put ON the tap, water rushes inside the tub. Embedded Systems 4) If its electronic control , then by the press of the keys ,you could program , if its mechanical it shall something like an mechanical switches wherein you are allowed to operate for setting the wash time. 5) Now the wash motor rotates and washes the clothes and gives you a beep sound 6) Now your clothes are washed à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦remove it from the wash tub and put it on the spin tub and program it accordinglyà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦after spinning clothes are dried and you are allowed to hang it for proper drying in sunlight. The fully automatic also comes in two category front loading as well as top loading. i) Front loading is the one wherein you are given an opening to put clothes in on the front side. ii) Top loading is on the top. iii) System Controller: Such Component is used to control the motor speed. Motor can move in forward direction as well as reverse direction. System Controller reads the speed of motor and controls the speed of motor in different phases such as in Washing, Cleaning Drying etc. All kinds of Sensors such as Door Sensor, Pressure Sensor and Keypad, Speed sensor are also maintained by this. iv) Water Pump: The water pump is used to recirculate water and drain out the dirty water. This pump actually contains two separate pumps inside one: The bottom half of the pump is hooked up to the drain line, while the top half recirculates the wash water. The motor that drives the pump can reverse direction. It spins one way when the washer is running a wash cycle and recirculates the water; and it spins the other way when the washer is doing a spin cycle and draining the water. PROGRAMMING LANGUANGE USED IN EMBEDDED SYSTEM: Embedded systems are application specific computers that interact with the physical world. Each has a diverse set of tasks to perform, and although a very flexible language might be able to handle all of them, instead a variety of problem domain specific languages have evolved that are easier to write, analyze, and compile. The choice of programming language is very important for real time embedded software. The following factors influence the choice of languages: A language compiler should be available for the chosen RTOS (Real Time Operating System) and hardware architecture of the embedded system. à · Compilers should be available on multiple OSs and microprocessors. This is particularly important if the processor or the RTOS needs to be changed in future. The language should allow direct hardware control without sacrificing the advantages of a high level language. The language should provide memory management control such as dynamic and static memory allocation. So, we can categorize embedded programming languages in to two parts such as hardware language and software language. Hardware language: A hardware description language can be used to describe the logic gates, the sequential machines, and the functional modules, along with their interconnection and their control, in a embedded system. There are various languages used for this purpose as follows: VHDL VHDL is the Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language. It can describe the behavior and structure of electronic systems, but is particularly suited as a language to describe the structure and behavior of digital electronic hardware designs; VHDL is an international standard, regulated by the international languages. VHDL is suitable for use today in the digital hardware design process, from specification through high level functional simulation, manual design and logic synthesis down to gate level simulation. VERILOG Verilog HDL is one of the two most common Hardware Description Languages (HDL) used by integrated circuit (IC) designers. The other one is VHDL. HDL allows the design to be simulated earlier in the design cycle in order to correct errors or experiment with different architectures. Designs described in HDL are technology independent, easy to design and debug, and are usually more readable than schematics, particularly for large circuits. Verilog can be used to describe designs at four levels of abstraction: Algorithmic level (much like, C language code with if, case and loop statements). ii) Register transfer level (RTL uses registers connected by Boolean equations). Gate level (interconnected AND, NOR etc.) Switch level (the switches are MOS transistors inside gates). The language also defines constructs that can be used to control the input and output of simulation. Software language: Java and C++ are other programming languages which are used extensively for embedded system design. APPLICATION OF EMBEDDED SYSTEM: We can categorize applications of Embedded System into various categories as mentioned in Table: Area Applications Aerospace Navigation Systems, Automatic landing systems, Flight altitude controls, engine controls, space exploration Automotive Fuel Injection Control, Passenger environmental controls, antilock braking systems, air bag controls, GPS mapping Communications Switches, Hubs Computer Peripherals Printers, scanners, keyboards, displays, modems, Hard Disk Drives, CDROM drives Home Ovens, Washing Machine, Digital Watch, Security Alarm, Sound Recorder Industrial Elevator Controls, Robots, Engine Control Instrumentation Data Collection, power supplies Medical Imaging Systems, Patient monitors, Heart pacers Office Automation FAX machines, Telephones, Cash Registers CONCLUSION: An embedded system is a single purpose computer built into a larger system for the purposes of controlling and monitoring the system. These are also known as special purpose computer system. In this assignment we came to know how the embedded system is implemented in the home applications and how it is useful for the human beings in a very good manner.

Children and Nature in Poetry
Children and Nature in Poetry In numerous poems during the romantic period the themes are centered on children and nature. The themes are not just about children alone and not just nature but the two subjects together. This is to suggest that children and nature are connected, the two subjects are one. Poets during the romanticism era use the childhood period as sort of a looking glass into nature and its true aspects which seems to get lost once adulthood is reached. The poems in the romantic era are all about trying to regain that innocence that special bond that a child seems to be able to share with nature. Samuel Coleridges poem Frost at Midnight is set in the winter season with him describing his feelings about his infant baby. Coleridge realizes how special his child is and how his child is able to share a connection with nature. A connection, that Coleridge believes that he was deprived of For I was reared/ in the great city, pent mid cloisters dim, and saw naught lovely but the sky and stars(Coleridge 51-53). Coleridge here claims that because he was raised within the city he never was able to create that special bond with nature. Due to this fact he uses his child now as sort of that medium into understanding nature, since he himself lost that time of innocence to the city. Coleridge is pained by his bringing up in the city life and throughout the poem is rejoicing that his child instead will be able to grow in nature. But thou, my babe! Shalt wander like a breeze/ by lakes and sandy shores, beneath the crags/ of ancient mountain, and beneath the clouds.(Coleridge 54-56). The line Shalt wander like a breeze suggest that Coleridge believes that child and nature are one. The child will actually become a part of nature, a breeze and shall wander in nature by the lakes and sandy shores. Coleridge by the end of his poem is still hopeful for his child. That even when his child is grown, will still remember that humans and nature are one, he claims that God will help him maintain this status. Great universal Teacher! He shall mould/ thy spirit, and by giving make it ask. Therefore all seasons shall be sweet to thee.(Coleridge 63-65). Coleridge uses the child in this poem to show that children and nature are one. Through this poem the audience is meant to see that humans and nature are not separate entities but together they act as one single unit. Unfortunately as we leave childhood and begin our journey into adulthood we seem to lose that view of nature and ourselves and begin to see nature separately. Looking next at Wordsworth poem Ode Intimations of immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood Wordsworth also agrees with the Coleridge idea, that children are able to connect with nature. The only difference between the two is that Wordsworth believes that as every child is born, they immediately share a connection with nature and with heaven, that they are born with this connection. Coleridge on the other hand believes that this connection, yes, occurs during the innocent time of childhood but is not one that is guaranteed. For Coleridge this connection must be made, you are not born with it, for he himself says he never had the chance to connect with nature the way his child is able to. Wordsworth in this poem wants the audience to wake up! To see that we have lost our way and have been sleeping, he wants us to return to the mindset of a child There was a to,me when meadow, grove, and stream,/ the earth, and every common sight,/ to me did seem/ appareled in celestial light,/ the glory and the freshness of a dream.(Wordsworth 1-5). Children are the ones who are able to see nature for what is truly is. Heaven lies about is in our infancy!(Wordsworth 66). Unfortunately Wordsworth loses this way of seeing and thinking to the world as he begins to grow. It is not now as it hath been of yore; / turn wheresorer I may/ by night or day,/ the thinks which I have seen I not can see no more. (Wordsworth 5-9). Here Wordsworth is sadden that although he tries to see what he once was able to, he can not. Wordsworth believes that losing this mentality is inevitable. Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting; Shades of the prison house begin to close/ upon the growing boy.(Wordsworth 58, 67-68). Wordsworth is sadden by this thought that we lose our innocence appreciation for the natural world. Yet he is reminded that he can still be happy for he still has the child and his memories to help connect to nature. Wordsworth uses his experiences and a child to keep him connected and Coleridge uses his infant to keep him connected. This is what it means when Child is the father of man. Of course the child can not care for the man, but still the child has something to offer. Just as a father offers protection and care for a child, the child offers the mindset and lens into the natural world. The child is a reminder that nature and humanity are one; they are intertwined with one another.

Flag Desecration is Freedom of Expression Our nationââ¬â¢s flag is an everlasting symbol of freedom and hope that stands as a testament to our nationââ¬â¢s power. Most importantly our flag represents the freedom of the individual to express his ideals as they see fit. Therefore when the very essence of Americans freedom is challenged by the ââ¬Å"flag amendment,â⬠that would forbid the desecration of the American flag, a dilemma forms. While flag burning is highly offensive, it is none the less a means of expression and is protected by the constitution of America. Forbidding an individual from expressing themselves is the opposite of what our flag represents. Even though Flag burning is considered one of the highest displays of hatred toward a country, it is still protected by the first amendment. It is a means of expression. Despite the fact that this sounds a little farfetched, flag desecration is under the same category as art, or literatureââ¬âexpression. When an individual feels dissatisfaction towards his country, depending on the individual, they may write a political satire, draw a political cartoon, or burn the flag. It is all relevant to the level of dissatisfaction of the individual. Flag burning cannot be thought of outside of the spectrum of expression. In some cases flag burning is not even taken seriously by those involved in the act; most cases are considered ââ¬Å"drunken pranksâ⬠or merely ââ¬Å"teenage vandalism.â⬠In the entire history of the United States there have been less than two hundred reported cases of flag desecration. In addition to the fact that there is a lack of flag burning in total, flag desecration is on the declineââ¬âIn 1996 there were 31 reported cases, in 2002 11 cases, in 2003 six cases, and this year so far there has been only one case. The U.S. Supreme Court, the highest court in the judicial system, ruled that ââ¬Å"the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea offensiveâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Supporting this amendment debases the ideals of our founding fathers.

Jane Eyre is a character existing in a narrative in the first person, as is Hamlet in his soliloquy. This brings a sense of identification and realism to the reader, ââ¬Å"I did not feel the cold, though it froze keenlyâ⬠(Bronte, p143) indicated the narratorââ¬â¢s feelings and experience. The narration is written in the past tense, ââ¬Å"in those days I was youngâ⬠(p143) to add to the affect of a recollection and to bring the sense of an autobiography. à à à à à Jane is not an omniscient narrator, like Hamlet, therefore the reader can see things she does not, such as the gloomy significance of the extract and how it is an indication of her future relationship with Mr Rochester, and Thornfield. The whole of the novel is written in elaborate, complex sentences, which perhaps is the authorââ¬â¢s way of demonstrating Janeââ¬â¢s intelligence and eloquence. The style of language and it usage is similar to that of Keats. Bronte uses active verbs such as ââ¬Å"rising moonâ⬠and ââ¬Å"blended cloudsâ⬠(p143) and ââ¬Å"noiseâ⬠breaking out, and integrates them into the elegant prose to bring a sense of movement to Janeââ¬â¢s surroundings. An idea of sound is also achieved by the use of onomatopoeic words such as ââ¬Å"tinkle of the nearest streamâ⬠and ââ¬Å"whisperingâ⬠(p143) this brings a sensuous aspect to the prose, something that Keats also manages to achieve in his Ode to Autumn. There is even a small degree of alliteration ââ¬Å"wave wanderingsâ⬠(p143) something, which Keats also uses. à à à à à The imagery in Jane Eyre is plentiful, for instance the moon is personified as female, ââ¬Å"The rising moon . . . she looked over Hayâ⬠(p143) the images are conjured up through pictorial descriptions used by Jane, as with Keats. We get the impression that Thornfield is slightly intimidating, we know the hall is ââ¬Å"grey and battlementedâ⬠(p143) and that the woods are ââ¬Å"darkâ⬠.

Energy Efficiency – a Replacement to Load Shedding
Load shedding is one of the biggest problem faced by everyone in Pakistan, no matter they are domestic or commercial consumers. Pakistan is facing a serious energy crises and it may get worse if not addressed seriously and promptly. Everyone is curious about the role of government in dealing with this issue and relieving consumers through immediate supply side solutions such as new power sources. Government is playing its role in establishing new power plants and potential of utilizing unleashed sources such as coal and renewable resources i. e. ind, solar etc. Domestic and commercial consumers contribute more than 60% in the total electrical energy requirement of Pakistan. Currently, maximum energy deficit is 5500 MW in summers and immediate solutions are unable to meet this deficit in near future. It is not recommended to a consumer to compromise on comfort by not operating some of the high priority appliances but slight change in behavior may contribute much more than expected. Main electricity demand contributors are cooling and heating appliances used by domestic and commercial users. In order to quantify the impacts of such appliances, research has been carried regarding the usage of air conditioners in Pakistan. Consumers have been suffering from crises in form of load shedding for hours in a day no immediate solution seems to be viable in extended summers. They tend to blame government and utility companies for not reducing load shedding. Energy could be made available for extended hours but a mass level awareness about efficient usage of energy is required. Illegal connections, usage of inefficient and unnecessary appliances at peak demand time has worsened the situation and utility companies seem helpless about it. They are not left with any other option to reduce demand except through load shedding. Air conditioners are one of the major contributors in peak load in summer. They comprise 15% of the total peak load requiring at least 3000 MW for the country. A survey regarding usage of air conditioners was floated as a part of this research and 300 domestic and commercial consumers responded to the survey. One of the conclusions of the survey indicated that 21 0C is the average control temperature for AC in households. From the same survey consumers were asked about the maximum control temperature used in household. The maximum average temperature was found to be 26 0C. In order to investigate the influence of this control temperature on household energy consumption and peak load demand, an experiment was carried out on two similar buildings in Karachi. Two rooms of the dimension of 12 X 16 X 12 ft were used for this purpose. One room was operated at 21 0C control temperature for 24 hours period while other at 26 0C. Observations and results indicated that a total of 0. 45 KWhr saving was recorded in the room having AC operating at 26 0C. If this saving is extrapolated to expected number of air conditioners in Pakistan, then a total of 14. 5 GWhr of electrical energy could be saved in a single day. In terms of power this can easily curtail a total of 607 MW out of peak demand, which is equivalent to some of the largest power plants in the country. If similar energy conservation techniques are applied for refrigerators and other cooling appliances then savings could be of much significant level. Due to ongoing gas load shedding scenario, consumers may start turning towards electrical heating appliances, which may potentially add up in electrical energy demand in near future. Large scale awareness is required at each level of consumption. Peak load shifting, discouraging illegal connections and utilizing energy in efficient way are our few life lines. A single consumer contribution may seem insignificant but as a whole it can contribute towards reduction of significant peak load.

Upon admission to the hospital, Allenââ¬â¢s breathing was rapid and shallow, can you explain why? Pg. 969 Due to Allenââ¬â¢s fall he likely has an incompetent diaphragm due to injuring a cervical segment. This would alter effect the lower motor neurons and external intercostal muscles. This would cause his chest x-ray to show a decreased lung expansion. This may have caused Allen to have to take rapid shallow breaths to maintain oxygenation. Overall, interruption of spinal innervation to the respiratory muscles would a lso explain his acidotic state.3. Why did Allen lose some sensation to his arms and all sensation from the upper trunk down? This is because Allenââ¬â¢s C5 segment was injured. Therefore, the dorsal column tracts and spinothalamic tracts were altered. This would cause Allen to have lost and decreased sensations.4. Why did Allen have dry skin and a fever upon admission to the hospital? pg. 970 The rationale for the dry skin and fever is that Allen had lack of sympathetic and hypothalamic control. Therefore, his body adapted to the temperature of the environment as wells as attempting to increase extracellular fluid. Overall, spinal shock would result in these symptoms along with decreased sweat production resulting from decreased sympathetic motor neuron stimulation.5. I belie ve this isà where the fracture occurred because Allen had minimal biceps brachial stretch reflex, was able to raise his shoulders and tighten them, and could tighten his biceps.In addition Allen could not raise his arms against gravity, had flaccid lower extremities, and was without triceps or wrist extensor reflexes, and other muscle stretch reflexes were absent. Cognitive Behavior Therapy Cognitive behavior therapy is a great way to help people with depression. According to Wright, ââ¬Å"Cognitive behavior therapy is a pragmatic, action-oriented treatment approach that has become a widely used psychotherapy for major mental disorders. Cognitive behavior therapy methods were initially developed for depression and anxiety disorders, and later they were modified for many other conditions, including personality disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse; they have also been adapted for use as an adjustment to medication in the management of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (Wright, 2006).â⬠Cognitive behavior theory is mainly used with depression and anxiety. Many people of all ages are affected byâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦They may express thought of being overwhelmed and that there is so much to accomplish that they can never do it (Corey, 2012).â⬠Depression even though can be treated by medication and therapy; it can s till lead to problems in the future when clients stop taking medication and therapy. ââ¬Å"Everyone has automatic thoughts, but in clinical states such as depression and anxiety disorders, these cognitions are often riddled with errors in logic. In depression, automatic thoughts typically center on themes of negativity, low self-esteem, and ineffectiveness (Wright, 2006).â⬠Aaron Beck studied depression and focused on what triggers depression. ââ¬Å"Beck developed specific cognitive procedures to help depressive clients evaluate their assumptions and beliefs and to create a new cognitive perspective that can lead to optimism and change behavior (Corey, 2012).â⬠The first component of the triad includes clients holding negative views of themselves, they also blame their setbacks on personal inadequacies without considering circumstantial explanations. The people are convinced that they lack the qualities in order to be happy. Examples of this would be ââ¬Å"I am a boring personâ⬠, ââ¬Å"I am uninterestingâ⬠, ââ¬Å"I am too sad for anyone to like me.â⬠The second component is the tendency to interpret their personal world in a negative manner.
